SendHog and Amazon SES
SES supplies email infrastructure. SendHog manages the surrounding setup and application workflows, so your team does not operate its own AWS sending stack. Compare the work involved—not just feature checkboxes.
Which work stays with your team?
SES already offers many of the underlying primitives. SendHog's advantage is how those pieces are configured, surfaced and maintained as an application sending service.
| Area | Amazon SES | SendHog |
|---|---|---|
| Integration | Amazon SES API, AWS SDKs or SMTP. | Generated provider-shaped clients, including the SES v2 Simple subset; SendHog auth, not AWS SigV4 or endpoint-only migration. |
| AWS account and access | Your team configures its AWS account, IAM access and SES production-access request. | The service operates the provider account. No customer-owned AWS email account or separate SES sandbox request. Sending is automatically approved after domain verification. |
| IP infrastructure | Shared IPs are available; dedicated options include managed warmup. | Provider infrastructure is managed for the service. New customer domains still build their own reputation. |
| Domain authentication | SES supports authentication; your team configures domain records and policy. | Provider-issued DKIM records and optional DMARC DNS checks in domain setup. You publish and retain the DNS records. |
| Feedback and suppressions | SES provides feedback and suppression primitives; your application configures its processing and integration. | Managed provider delivery/bounce/complaint feedback, recipient suppressions and sending holds. Hosted campaign/unsubscribe management is not included. |
| History and health | SES and AWS monitoring features depend on your configuration and selected plan. | Searchable message history with saved delivery outcomes, plus read-scoped message APIs. This is not an independent reputation score. |
| Engagement tracking | SES can publish open/click events through its event-publishing configuration. | Email opens, link clicks and customer-facing tracking callbacks are not currently supported. Website analytics is separate from email tracking. |
| Templates and campaigns | SES exposes template, bulk-send and contact-list capabilities; you assemble the application workflow. | Visual SendHog templates and variable substitution for supported native sends. Contact-list and campaign orchestration remain application responsibilities. |
| Scheduled application email | Your application supplies scheduling orchestration around the sending integration. | The current API does not schedule messages. Your application supplies scheduling. |
| Capacity | Sandbox defaults are 200 recipients/24 hours and 1/second. Production quotas are account- and region-specific. | Choose a monthly plan for your expected recipients. Daily allocation and sending rate are specified separately for your account. |
| Pricing | À-la-carte outbound rate or a selected SES plan, plus applicable data and add-ons. | Platform subscription plus prepaid outbound sending allowance. |
| Migration | Keep your existing AWS configuration available while testing a new integration. | Migrate one workflow first and verify domain setup, events, suppressions and rollback. |
A simpler start with a plan for your volume
The service manages provider access, so customers do not submit a production-access request for their own SES account. Verify your domain for automatic sending approval.
Choose 30k, 250k or 1M monthly recipients. Monthly plan capacity, daily allocation and sending rate are separate limits; use the effective configuration for your account when planning throughput.
Follow the quickstartManaged infrastructure and domain reputation
SES offers shared sending infrastructure and managed dedicated-IP warmup. SendHog manages provider configuration for you and brings health indicators into the application workflow.
New customer domains still build sending history. Consent, list quality and responsible volume changes remain important on either service.
AWS sandbox requirementsMonthly cost at the included volumes
These examples assume full use of each quota and compare only SES à-la-carte outbound transport. They exclude data, AWS add-ons, taxes and additional services.
| Outbound recipients | Raw SES transport | SendHog platform fee | SendHog total |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30,000 | $3 | $2 | $5 / month |
| 250,000 | $25 | $5 | $30 / month |
| 1,000,000 | $100 | $10 | $110 / month |
SES Essentials instead starts at $0.16 / 1,000 at the first volume tier. A SendHog subscription is not equivalent to SES Essentials, Pro or Enterprise. AWS rates checked October 14, 2026.
What changes when migrating?
An application using AWS SDKs needs a reviewed integration change. A different sending origin alone is not enough. Domain verification, suppression imports, recipient consent and event handling also need to be checked.
Migration and rollback guideKeep the existing provider available
Move one workflow first and verify its outcome before changing all application mail. Preserve the old integration, credentials and routing so you can roll back without losing suppression or unsubscribe state.
